Understanding Seismic Response Through Modeling

  • Seismic interpretation of complex geology requires knowledge of distortions caused by structure and velocity variations

  • Modeling can reveal the illumination and imaging complexities

  • Modeling can uncover AVO complications

3-D visualization image (right) of raypaths (white lines) to three common reflection point (CRP) gathers on one subsalt reflector. Note the center CRP is illuminated by shots and receivers far to the west (left) of its location. The top of salt is color-coded surface (mostly reds and yellows) and subsalt reflector is colored in shades of green. A 3-D pre-stack depth migrated seismic line is plotted to the right. 3-D visualization can be an invaluable tool in understanding imaging problems.
